The Pelican and the Magpies

A short time ago, there was a young pelican. Her name was Moonshine. She lived with her friend the gull, Sunshine. Moonshine used to ply around the countryside to catch salmon to satisfy her appetite.

One day, when Moonshine was in her usual search for salmon she met three nightingales who were singing in their sweet voice; la la la la la.

Moonshine listened with envy. She listened and was so spellbound she did not notice it was dusk. She hastily carried one salmon and flew back home.

Moonshine explained everything to Sunshine, of her envy and her wanting for a sweet voice. “There is no need to have envy for that small thing, Moony dear.” Sunshine said. “You know pelicans are born with rough voices so don’t have envy for the thing you could never have. You’ll start to admire your voice after you pay more attention to it”.

Moony was convinced. From that day on Moony never became loony and admired what she had.
